What is Cognitive Analytic Therapy?
Cognitive Analytic Therapy is a talking therapy which integrates aspects of cognitive therapy such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and long term exploratory approaches such as psychodynamic psychotherapy.
What does Cognitive Analytic Therapy do?
Cognitive Analytic Therapy involves the Clinical Psychologist working in partnership with the client to discover how their psychological problem(s) have developed and are being maintained. Cognitive Analytic Therapy is not primarily concerned with psychiatric syndromes or labels which stigmatise clients. CAT involves a relational model of therapy which sees psychological problems as existing between people rather than within people.
What sort of problems can it be used on?
Cognitive Analytic Therapy is an evidence-based psychological therapy which can be used to treat a range of psychological problems such as chronic anxiety, depression and relationship problems. Some of the children or adults who experience such difficulties have a history of maltreatment or psychological trauma.
